Amla Sherbet (आवळा सरबत )
English – Indian gooseberry
Phyllanthus emblica (Family – Phyllanthaceae )
In Sanskrit Amalaki means ‘sustainer’.
It is one of the most powerful rejuvenating medicine in Ayurved.
Amla provides support & nutrition to digestive tract.
It reduces pitt dosha (reduces acidity).
Amla has a high amount of vitamin C, hence boosts immunity.
Patients under heavy medication always suffer from acidity. Amla sherbet lowers acidity,
boosts the immune system. It provides instant energy to the tired person.
Along with patients, normal persons can also savor this healthy drink to beat the heat.
- Take1/2 kg amla, wash it clean
- Cook amla in a pressure cooker (3 whistles). let it cool down.
- Cut amla into small pieces and remove seeds
- Take 1″ ginger, crush it and squeeze it 1/4 cup water to extract its juice
- Take 1/2 kg jaggery, cut it into small pieces and put it in a mixie jar. Add rock salt and cardamom powder as per your taste.
- Add pieces of cut boiled amla pieces to this jar and pour ginger extract in it.
- Grind this into a smooth paste
- Transfer this paste (Amla concentrate) into an air-tight glass bottle & store in a refrigerator. This can last for a month.
When you are thirsty or tired, take two spoons of this concentrate into a glass of water. Stir well and a refreshing, enriching energy drink ” Amla Sherbet” is ready in just two minutes.
